A look back to our last event…
G5 Founding Member Gerda Suess
Celebrates her 90th year
with a bagpiper, car drive-by, dignitaries & friends
MP for New Westminster/Burnaby Peter Julian led the socially distant crowd in a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday
On September 4th, 2020 G5 founder Gerda Suess celebrated her 90th birthday in the city of New Westminster. Helping her to celebrate the day, 50 cars participated in a drive-by and over 75 people who worn masks, staggered their arrivals and social distanced gathered to wish her warm wishes when she appeared on her balcony. The celebrations started off with a bagpiper leading a parade of dignitaries. In addition to Mr. Mom World Catering supplying her and her guests a bountiful box lunch, the event was highlighted by the accolades of MLA Judy Darcy and Rick Carswell who on behalf of the Mayor of New Westminster Jonathon Coté, presented Gerda with recognition of her 90 years. Further, the MP for New Westminster/Burnaby Peter Julian led the socially distant crowd in a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. The drive-by not only included close friends of the birthday girl, but also members of the Rotary New West, Hyack Festival Association, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation and members of our Emergency services. In lieu of cards and flowers, donations were gratefully accepted on behalf of the Group of Five, whom Gerda is a founding member. [A special shout-out to The New West Record paper and writer Theresa McManus for putting this event in the paper and to New West for keeping it a secret from her for over a week. Also, a shout-out for James Crosty, President of The G5 for MC’ing this great event.]
